The light has been acquired as part of the park, and it is one of the top 12 instagram-able locations. Every photo tour stops for sunset to get this composition, so you could buy a postcard, but it’s not the same as your own shot.
During the season there are literally dozens of people set up with tripods on the rocks waiting for the big show, and trying to find a parking space can be a nightmare. The best scenario is to have a designated driver, who can wait in the line for a space while the photographers scout out their locations and set up. Last fall when photographers come from all over the country, the line was at least 50 cars, waiting for maybe 30 spaces. This past visit it was only a few cars.
This was a quick stop, not really a photo session. We took some snaps, then gave up our spot. There were no tripods involved. If you want the iconic image, you need to plan to be there an hour before sunset to catch the good light and a good location.
