Geneva is an international city with a very French feel. It is home to the Red Cross, the World Health Organization, and the United Nations.
The quaint Alpine village of Zermatt is primarily an international ski resort, but the hiking, food, and natural beauty make it a year-round destination. We hit the weather right for our perfect day viewing the Matterhorn.
Lausanne’s lakefront has a French feel and is a vacation destination for local Europeans. We used it as a base for exploring the vineyard terraces and medieval castles.
I’m a big fan of Gruyère cheese, and now I know I like the most aged variation. In addition to the factory, you should walk up the hill to the castle and see the museum of disturbing works by HR Giger.
One of the most beautiful walks along Lake Gevena is from Chillon Castle to Montreux. If you are a Freddie Mercury fan, there are some things for you to see here!
Just outside of Lausanne there is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We went hiking through Lavaux’s Beautiful Vineyard Terraces. See a map of our route.
