about Ozzie

Ozzie is a miniature poodle in service dog training. He arrived from from TK Poodles, in New Jersey  just after Christmas at the Ft. Lauderdale airport with his puppy nanny. We find ourselves smitten and completely in love with this bundle of fur.

Finding the perfect dog was a process led primarily by Franzi, K-9. Artistry. Jamie did not see herself with a poodle, mainly because of the plethora of ridiculous haircuts posted online. However, Ozzie is the perfect size for her to be able to take on a plane; he doesn’t shed, and he’s very smart. That checks a lot of boxes. He will only be 10-12 pounds, and we don’t have to give him crazy haircuts, but it might be fun, sometimes.

training

Franzi is very structured, and she is in charge of Ozzie’s schedule. Jamie and I are learning, but coordinating a clicker, treats, and a lead is challenging. I’m better at handling the camera and leaving the training to others. He is very photogenic! It has only been a few weeks, and he is fetching, heeling, sitting, and is working on endearing himself to Jessie. There is still a lot to do before he earns his vest, but he’s making fast progress.

He has been exposed to the usual puppy things, like garbage trucks, bicycles, skateboards, etc., but has also been to the airport to learn about TSA checkpoints

the photos

This session was my first attempt with a Nikon Z9, using the brand new tracking and auto-focus features. Up to now, I have been using a DSLR, the Nikon 850 for the Dog Gone Photos. It’s a great camera, but mirrorless is the new technology, and it seems like Nikon got it right with the Z9. I’m excited to test it out next weekend at the Treasure Coast Retriever Club Winter Hunt Test
