One of my favorite things to do is take my camera on the road, capture unique moments and see obscure places. I share my adventures and misadventures in this travel and photography journal to help you learn from my experiences. Time on the road goes by quickly, and you see a lot in a short period of time. When you return from an exotic locale, sometimes the pictures are all you have to remind yourself of the moment. Keep shooting!

It is super-convenient to have a sunrise location close to home. This is a popular place to watch the sun come up with lots of opportunities to create compositions with the rock formations.
On a hot day, boating is a great way to cool down. The air on the water can be 10 degrees cooler and much breezier than in town, and when the temperature starts to climb, island hopping is just the thing.
This is the year! Joe and I are taking a road trip, and never being ones to do anything half way – it’s a big one: six weeks from Maine to Montana and back again. It will be beautiful, and we’re very excited about it.
Juno Beach surfers were riding the waves while I tested my new camera and auto-focus tracking, a view from the pier.
A special request for a picture of the beautiful golf course at Jonathan’s Landing. There is a cameo appearance by a 12-foot gator.
Are you trying to get the perfect holiday pet photo? Here are a few tips.
The final session on Doug and Cathy’s dock was too good to be true. It changed every 15 minutes and I kept snapping away – we got light rays and a pink light reflecting off the clouds. The pictures were very different as the morning progressed; it’s hard to believe that it was the same day.
The second session of the three on Doug and Cathy’s dock was very clear, so we lacked the drama of the pink clouds reflecting in the water. However we did get a very clear line as the blue light moved across the sky and was replaced by the orange glow of the sun. There were also some pelican-fly-by’s and a manatee sighting! It looks like a ripple, so you will have to trust me on this one… Session 1 Session 3
Doug and Cathy were looking for a local print for their family room wall, and after looking at local scenes, decided they wanted a more personal image. They wanted the view from their dock. so I met them for coffee and sunrise to see what we could get. This was our first session, and as it turned out, the image above with the ripples in the water fit the space perfectly. It was taken that morning, but we did three sessions before they stopped me because it was getting too hard to choose. I like coffee and sunrise, so I was perfectly happy to continue on… Session 2 Session 3
How to get the perfect moonrise? Try moonset! There’s a lot of planning that goes into this, and it doesn’t always work out.
On the way back from Maine to Florida, I took a detour to visit my parents in NC and see the new puppy… and now there are three. It has been my experience that they don’t stay young and cuddly for long, and in Rainy’s case, I missed cuddly all together. He’s really cute, but cannot possibly be still, unless he’s sleeping. Training has already begun, and he is retrieving bumpers and helping Sammy on her runs. Tank is having none of it, because for now he’s the big dog. We did some field work, but my best picture came back home, of Tank jumping into the pond. It’s now a framed print over the fireplace.
I am a photographer located in South Florida and Down East Maine.
